Some common grooming questions & answers...

Q. Why is it important to have your pets groomed?

A.  Many people would be amazed by how your dog or cat will behave after they have been groomed!  They know that they look good, and they feel better too.  It is better for their over-all heath.

Q.  Why is it important to have your pet groomed on a regular basis instead of occasionally?

A.  Maintaining your pets groom is important because it saves them, extensive brushing, or the need to be shaved down due to matting.  It keeps their coat and skin healthy, & keeping their ears & eyes clean and free from excess hair will help prevent ear & eye infections. Also regular grooming helps with flea problems.

Q.  How often should we have our dog groomed.

A.  I would recommend at least every 4 – 6 weeks, most dogs by 4 weeks and looking a bit shaggy and might be in need of a new smell.

Q.  How soon should we have our new puppy groomed?

A.  The earlier you start your pets grooming experience the better.  Here at Lucky Dog, the first one or two visits we get the puppy used to the process, we call it “Puppy Basics".  They will get their bath, blow dry, & nails, on the first visit, then in a week or two when you bring the puppy back we will get their haircut in addition to the bath, blow dry & nails.  Sometimes it is a slow process, but in the long run, it is better for Puppy & Groomer to work into a full groom slowly.

Q.  Is it necessary to always go to the same groomer?

A.  It is less stressful on your pet if they get used to one place & one groomer.  Also if the groomer is familiar with your pet, they may be able to catch some things that could turn into big problems and hefty vet bills later, like skin irritations, ear & eye infections, fleas/ticks, etc.

Q.  What if my dog doesn’t seem to like to go to the groomer, should I be worried?

A.  Just because a dog is reluctant to go into a groom shop does not mean that they are being mistreated while they are there, your dog may be sensitive to the commotion, as it can be noisy.  It may be that they are not thrilled with being in a kennel, or they may not be sure if they are going to grooming or going to the vet.  Although I think that most groomers are sweet and wonderful to the dogs that are in their care, it is possible to get the one bad apple in the bunch, so be aware and do not be afraid to ask questions.

If you have some questions they were not answered here please feel free to send us an e mail or give us a call.

Doggie Daycare

Have you ever wondered why people would pay to put their dog in daycare?  Some dogs have separation anxiety, and therefore will bark all day, get into garbage if not kenneled, chew themselves, destroy furniture, toys, shoes, etc.  Many dogs who are not mentally & socially stimulated may display “Bad Behavior" Digging, barking, jumping, chewing etc.  Many people like the idea of knowing that their dog is in a climate-controlled environment, with other dogs to play with!  Most dogs go home very tired!

Lucky Dog Daycare is an Open play Dog Daycare for all size dogs.  The dogs have access to two good size rooms, and a small outdoor run for potty.  We do have a couple of kennels that are always open if the dogs are so inclined.  Our office is located right inside of daycare where we have a couple of dogs’ beds and a couch if the dogs want to nap, or get away from all of the play.

Some people are reluctant to bring their small dogs to a daycare where small and large dogs are all together, let me just tell you from experience that here at Lucky Dog, SMALL dogs rule the roost!

All dogs in daycare must be other dog & people friendly, current on all vaccinations, & spayed or neutered by 7 months old, and on an effective flea control program.
